Air Pollution Raises Tally of Chronic Liver & Kidney Diseases
16 Nov 2021
Air pollution is adding to the tally of new cases of kidney and liver diseases, says a journal published in the American Society of Nephrology, while explaining how it may affect some organs in the human body.
It is of utmost importance to learn about what needs to be done to minimise exposure to air pollutants.
With above 90 per cent of people worldwide exposed to deadly air pollutants, air pollution is one of the major health emergencies, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). It is found to be one of the biggest contributors to premature death, claiming more than 8 million lives globally.
"Similar to smoking, air pollution contains harmful toxins that can directly affect the kidneys," says Jennifer Bragg-Gresham, M.S., Ph.D., a Michigan Medicine. He further adds, "Kidneys have a large volume of blood flowing through them, and if anything harms the circulatory system, the kidneys will be the first to sense those effects."
People living in heavily polluted areas are at increased risk of developing kidney and liver diseases. Small particles can easily enter the lungs, and be transported to other body parts as well. And this is why they need to be aware of this problem and take appropriate precautions to minimise exposure to toxins and pollutants.
Short-Term and Long-Term Effects:
Immediate effects that can be temporary may comprise pneumonia or bronchitis. A person may also feel uneasiness irritation to the throat, eyes, nose, and other body parts. Sometimes, prolonged exposure to pollutants may also lead to nausea and headache.
Long-term impacts of poor air quality can be experienced for many years, or sometimes for the entire life. They include some chronic and life-threatening diseases such as heart disease, lung cancer, kidney infections, and breathing problems like emphysema. As per the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 2.5 million people die globally due to the adverse impact of outdoor or indoor poor air quality.
Why Air Pollution is Hazardous:
Air pollution is now one of the biggest threats to our planet, claiming more than 6 million lives every year due to the adverse impact of air pollution, which is more than the deaths due to AIDS and tuberculosis, and malaria combined. It is a cocktail of tiny particles like PM2.5 and other toxins that float in the air for a long time until they are neutralized using an air purification system.
Children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses are highly susceptible to adverse effects from exposure to air pollution. Particulate matters (PM) and air pollutants are virtually impossible to avoid in the time when our unavoidable activities like driving, cooking, household cleaning, etc. are contributing to air contamination.
However, there is a solution hidden in every problem. It is crucial to take proper safety precautions when exposed to pollutants. People living in highly polluted areas, especially in Delhi and nearby cities, should think about some additional measures in addition to strapping on a mask and reducing hours outside.
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we now understand how pollutants and particulate matter can affect our health. And thus, it is necessary to be more aware of the air quality in this difficult time.

Air Purification System: A Solution to Increased Risk of Air Pollution
For all the reasons, discussed above, an air purification system is an all important life-saving machine that makes sure one’s family breathes in pure air. Companies are flooding the market with several home air purifiers—introduced in different shapes and sizes. But most of them are just ordinary air purifiers that might not be as much as effective as you need in this challenging time.
PetriMed CA™ Air Purification System is a unique solution in itself, featured with an 8-stage air filtration system based on Canadian technology. What makes it better than others is its filtration effectiveness to capture 99.999% of dust, allergens, and pollutants. It is featured with H14 ISO 50U HEPA filter combined with washable pre-filter nano-silver anti-bacterial layer, UV-C disinfector, activated carbon filter with zeolite, built-in ionizer, and nanomolecular sieve. In addition to these high-end specifications, PetriMed CA™ APS comes with other next-gen technical features to add to your conveniences.
Several people hardly understand how air pollution is a serious problem because it isn't something we can see. While following the Covid protocol has become an essential part of our day-to-day activity, indoor air quality is often ignored. Now’s the time to go for an advanced air purification system (not a simple air purifier) while they are available at competitive rates.
